5.1. Diode and Thyristor Bridge Modules in ATPDraw

Summary: This paper describes a family of User Specified ATPDraw objects to simulate
diode and thyristor Graetz bridges. These objects are created to give the user the maximum
flexibility of use. In particular the following models are presented:

  • a simple diode bridge, incorporating valve snubbers
  • two different thyristor bridges operating in:

  •         - Equidistant Firing Control
            - Individual Phase Control.
Both the thyristor bridges allow user-specified operating frequencies and delay angles
variable during simulation; this way they are more flexible than the Graetz bridge (called,
although not properly, “hvdc”) so far enclosed in the ATPDraw package. Some ATPDraw
examples in which the modules are used are presented as well.
